Sign Making

I grew up in a home where my parents spoke the Word of God over us continually. Whenever we were in pain, sick, facing fear, or just walking through our daily lives, we were using scripture.

My parents really knew how to live out this verse:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up... Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." - Deut 6:5-9.
I have found entirely too many Christians don't make the Word of God a continual part of life, this verse makes it pretty clear it's not just a Sunday thing!

As I got older, I loved to find a verse in the Bible that really spoke to me and tape it somewhere visible. I had them on my dresser, mirrors, car, you name it; and these verses really ministered to me in so many situations.

So, I started putting them on decorative signs in our house. Probably the plainest one I ever painted is pictured below, but it has had more meaning to our family especially me than any other.

My kids will complain about a chore, and then look at that verse and feel the conviction of God - and I didn't say a word. Way cool! It really helps them to hide these important verses in their hearts, too.

Finally, I started making signs for other people. God would place a verse on my heart for someone going through a challenging time, and I would write it on a sign for them. It is a great way to share the love of Christ with others. But more than that the sign becomes a constant reminder of your values as a family and a ministry to others who come into your home as well!

So that's how I became a sign maker - and where the name Write Them on Your Doorposts came from!

Love,

Tara
